Honouring KK: Hichilema Urges Zambians to Uphold Legacy of Unity and Justice
Today, as Zambia comes together to celebrate Kenneth Kaunda Day, President Hakainde Hichilema has called on citizens to embrace the timeless values of unity, justice, and compassion that the nation’s founding father held dear.
writing with a visible sense of reverence, President Hichilema reminded Zambians that Dr Kenneth Kaunda fondly known as KK—dedicated his life to building a nation anchored in peace and humanity.
“KK’s dream was a Zambia where every individual, regardless of background, could stand tall in dignity,” the President said. “As we reflect on his life, let us recommit ourselves to his ideals, unity, hard work, fairness, and love for one another.”
Kenneth Kaunda Day, observed every April 28, honours the birth of Zambia’s first President, who would have turned 101 years old today. His leadership, President Hichilema said, was a beacon not only for Zambia but for the entire African continent.
With emotion woven into his words, Mr Hichilema urged citizens to view the nation’s diversity as a strength to be celebrated, not a wedge to divide.
“Our differences must be seen as gifts,” he said. “Together, they form the vibrant fabric of our great nation. KK showed us that unity was our greatest strength, and that lesson remains true today.”
President Hichilema’s address was not only a tribute but a call to action. He challenged Zambians to breathe life into Dr Kaunda’s vision by practicing the values of unity, justice, and kindness in their daily lives.
“This is more than a day of memory,” he said. “It is a day to renew our commitment. Let’s honour KK by living with compassion, by standing up for what is right, and by building a Zambia that he would be proud of.”
As the nation reflects, President Hichilema’s message strikes a poignant chord: Kenneth Kaunda’s dream lives on, and it is now the responsibility of every Zambian to keep that dream alive with courage, with love—and with unity.
