Chikankata Constituency celebrated the commissioning of four key Constituency Development Fund (CDF)-funded projects, underscoring the government’s commitment to grassroots development. Jacqueline Sabao, the Chikankata Member of Parliament, represented President Hakainde Hichilema, braving the rain to inspect and launch the projects. These included a 1×3 classroom block at Dundu in Upper Kaleya Ward, a 1×2 classroom block at Malala Primary School, a solar-powered water kiosk in Malala Ward, and a bridge in Simutuwe along the Chikankata-Mabwetu Road, all valued at K30,050.
During the event, Sabao reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving the quality of education and providing essential services to Zambians. She described the infrastructure as more than just buildings, symbolizing the country’s commitment to the future of its children and the nation as a whole. Sabao emphasized that education remains a top priority for President Hichilema, highlighting it as a critical driver of national development.
Chikankata District Commissioner, Timothy Chipolyonga, expressed appreciation for the government’s efficient allocation of resources, praising the CDF as a tool for empowering communities and transforming lives. Meanwhile, the Chikankata City Council Chairperson urged contractors to uphold high standards of construction and ensure timely payment for workers, marking 2025 as a year of hard work and effective service delivery.
Mukuwa Mulyate, representing the CDF Committee, lauded the initiative for giving power to the people, ensuring that the projects reflect the needs of the local communities. Local headteachers voiced their gratitude, noting that these projects would significantly enhance the learning environment and improve access to clean water for residents.
Additional CDF projects are set to be commissioned, including solar-powered kiosks in the Munali-Nzingu and Natandi Wandi areas, with a total cost of K822,550 for the three completed kiosks. The classroom blocks, meanwhile, had a combined total cost of K2,424,775.
These developments are part of the government’s broader vision to improve infrastructure, education, and public services, ultimately improving the quality of life for the people of Chikankata.
