Zambia Mourns the Passing of His Holiness Pope Francis: President Hichilema Offers Heartfelt Tribute

Lusaka – President Hakainde Hichilema has expressed profound sorrow and extended condolences on behalf of the Zambian people following the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. In a heartfelt statement, the President paid tribute to the Pontiff’s unwavering commitment to faith, peace, and social justice, describing him as “a man of great humility and compassion who led the Catholic Church by example.”

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of His Holiness Pope Francis,” President Hichilema said. “Throughout his papacy, he served not only as a spiritual leader to millions across the globe but also as a tireless advocate for the poor, the marginalized, and the voiceless. His life was a testament to love, mercy, and the enduring power of faith.”

Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, became the first Pope from the Americas and the first Jesuit to assume the papacy. Known for his simplicity, empathy, and progressive approach to global issues, he captured the hearts of believers and non-believers alike.

President Hichilema noted the profound significance of the timing of the Pope’s passing. “In a Jubilee year, on one of the most sacred days in the liturgical calendar, the Lord has called His servant home. Pope Francis has been promoted to glory on a day that resonates deeply with the hearts of the Catholic faithful around the world.”

The President emphasized the sense of global unity in mourning, saying, “We join Catholics and fellow Christians across the world in grieving this monumental loss. Zambia stands in solidarity with the Holy See and the entire Catholic community in this time of sorrow.”

As Zambia reflects on the legacy of Pope Francis, his message of love, tolerance, and inclusivity continues to resonate strongly. His efforts to bridge divides between nations, religions, and cultures have left an indelible mark on the modern world.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” President Hichilema concluded. “And may his legacy continue to inspire generations to come.”
